The biggest upset of the week belonged to Wilkinsburg, who took down 341st ranked Avonworth, 15-14.
Springdale moved up to 344 from 375 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL A Eastern. The Dynamos climbed the ranks as a result of beating Northgate 35-0.
Apollo Ridge's dynamic duo of Jesse Zelonka and Alex Smith proved tough for Riverview to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Zelonka threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns and Smith had 145 yards receiving. Christian Leonarski helped Apollo Ridge's passing attack out by catching one ball for 28 yards.
Andrew Wingard was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 122 yards as West Shamokin topped the Raiders. Teammate Zac Horner added to the ground attack by rushing for 87 yards.
Apollo Ridge's Zelonka and Tre Tipton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zelonka has thrown for 1080 yards this season, while Tipton, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 31 catches for 510 yards. Horner from the Wolves leads the league in rushing with 599 yards.
A big matchup in WPIAL A Eastern this week will be when the Flames take on the Antelopes. Northgate is in third place, while Avonworth is in fifth place.
There should be lots of points scored when West Shamokin and John Skiba's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Josh Gilliland's team comes in having scored 120 this season, while the Vikings have scored 219. The Wolves scored 33 points last week as they defeated Leechburg.
Springdale made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,864 from 8,583. The improvement came about via a 35-0 victory over TJ Wiley's team last week.
