The Seguin Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Wagner, falling 88-28. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Seguin in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now lost seven in a row.
Seguin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Britlyn Walls, who scored nine points. Karina Lerma was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
Seguin struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wagner racked up 19 assists.
La Sneed continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wagner, almost dropping a triple-double on 24 points, ten assists, and nine steals. Sneed has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Williams, who scored 18 points.
Seguin has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-24 record this season. As for Wagner, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 21-5.
Seguin will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Veterans Memorial is on a six-game streak of home losses, the Matadors a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Wagner will take on the Antlers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tivy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 36th).
