The Bingham Miners will head out on the road to face off against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Ridge took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Bingham, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Bingham strolled past Riverton with points to spare, taking the game 60-45. Given Bingham's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Riverton is ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bingham can attribute much of their success to Brianna Badonie, who scored 15 points, and Addy Horsley, who scored 19 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lena Casperson, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge struggled with assists on Tuesday (Copper Hills had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mountain Ridge took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Copper Hills.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jessica Maynard, who scored 18 points. Kya Newton was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
Bingham's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Mountain Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: Bingham have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.9 threes per game. It's a different story for Mountain Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 4.6 threes per game. Given Bingham's sizeable advantage in that area, Mountain Ridge will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bingham came up short against Mountain Ridge in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 57-47. Can Bingham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
