The Severance Silver Knights came tearing into Thursday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Mountain View 46-43. Given Severance's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Mountain View is ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Severance can attribute much of their success to Cannon Rank, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rank has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brady Varney, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Mountain View lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyson Mares-Benz, who scored six points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Garland, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mountain View were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Severance only racked up three assists.
Severance has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Mountain View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.
Severance and Niwot will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Niwot is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Mountain View, they will square off against Mead at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
