Strake Jesuit extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 5-2. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 42-38 W against the Fulshear Chargers. For the Fighting Crusaders, this counts as revenge for the 48-14 win the Chargers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.
It was another big night for John Hebert, who rushed for 396 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 47 yards and a pair of TDs. His longest rush was for an incredible 82 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Strake Jesuit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 405 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 316 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Strake Jesuit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Luke Leone and Harrison Socha. Leone is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
As for Fulshear, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. They were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
Fulshear lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ryland Forks, who picked up 84 receiving yards and one score. Shaan Patel was another key player, throwing for 241 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Strake Jesuit will face off against rival Alief Taylor at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Hebert and Hameer Shokunle. Meanwhile, Fulshear is set to square off against their familiar foe George Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
