The Cortez Colts won the last time they faced the Washington Rams, and things went their way on Thursday too. Cortez blew past Washington, posting a 80-42 victory at home. Given Cortez's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Washington is ranked 258th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Cortez to victory were Ulysses Espinoza and Devan Fowler. Espinoza scored 19 points along with 3 steals, while Fowler scored 19 points along with 5 assists. The game was Fowler's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Musa Watts, who scored 10 points.
Cortez now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Washington, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cortez will take on Marcos de Niza at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Washington won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fairfax at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Fairfax is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
