The Bennington Badgers will square off against the Elkhorn Antlers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bennington has 13 straight wins, Elkhorn has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Bennington gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Pius X by a score of 10-5.
Hunter Spencer was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Layne Boever, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Spencer wasn't the only one making solid contact: Bennington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Elkhorn didn't have quite enough to beat Wahoo/Bishop Neumann on Friday and fell 4-3.
Carter Haberling was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had over his last three contests.
At the plate, Caiden Severson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Bennington's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Elkhorn, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Bennington couldn't quite finish off Elkhorn in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Badgers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
