The Queensbury Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Schuylerville Horses at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Queensbury has seven straight wins, Schuylerville has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Queensbury earned a 7-2 victory over Amsterdam.
Davian Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lucas Rolleston was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Mootz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Schuylerville has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.71 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They fell just short of Broadalbin-Perth by a score of 11-10. That's two games in a row now that the Horses have lost by just one run.
Alex Renner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. Caden Morris was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Queensbury pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Schuylerville, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6-1.
