The Prairie Central Hawks were the 52-45 winner over the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Prairie Central took a 36-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of LaSalle-Peru on Monday. While losing is never fun, Prairie Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while LaSalle-Peru is ranked 250th).
Despite the loss, Prairie Central still got an impressive performance from Lucy Whitfill, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Whitfill is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.
Prairie Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-5) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Prairie Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-24. As for LaSalle-Peru, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-14.
Prairie Central won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Prairie Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday. As for LaSalle-Peru, they will head out on the road to take on Ottawa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
