Landen Peterson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Riverdale is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-7 otherwise. Peterson was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Colton Huffman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five stolen bases, and three runs. He has become a key player for Riverdale: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 3-8 otherwise. Tyler Nadolson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Riverdale lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Bureau Valley had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Tornadoes.
Bureau Valley's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Riverdale, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
Riverdale came out on top in a nail-biter against Bureau Valley when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Storm turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
