Gillespie waltzed into their match on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They enjoyed a cozy 55-41 victory over the Litchfield Purple Panthers. Given the Miners' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Purple Panthers are ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Litchfield lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Chloe Law, who posted 14 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Jenkins, who earned six points and five rebounds.

Gillespie pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Litchfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.

Gillespie will take on Southwestern in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at. As for Litchfield, they will take on Lincolnwood at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Litchfield is facing Lincolnwood at the right time seeing as Lincolnwood is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
