On Monday, the KIPP DC Legacy College Prep Bulldogs faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. KIPP DC Legacy College Prep ended up on the wrong side of a rough 78-58 walloping at the hands of Coolidge. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why KIPP DC Legacy College Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marlon Calhoun. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points. Calhoun scored a full 41.4% of KIPP DC Legacy College Prep's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Messiah Gibson, who scored 11 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coolidge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Quintin Cooper, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The game was Cooper's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Eric Turner was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with five steals.
KIPP DC Legacy College Prep's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-4. As for Coolidge, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
KIPP DC Legacy College Prep will be home for the holidays to greet Richard Wright Public Charter School at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Richard Wright Public Charter School is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to face off against Friendship Collegiate Academy at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Friendship Collegiate Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Monday.
