The Pinnacle Pioneers will be taking part in a tournament against the Arizona College Prep Knights at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Arizona College Prep took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Pinnacle, who comes in off a win.
Pinnacle saw some tournament action on Friday. They were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Mountain View.
Kodi Crabtree made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Crabtree was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bri Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Lilly Hamel was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
Pinnacle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View struck out 16 times.
Meanwhile, Arizona College Prep lost 9-3 to Cibola on Friday. The loss was the Knights' first of the season.
Arizona College Prep saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Cain, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Arizona College Prep fell to 2-1. As for Pinnacle, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Arizona College Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Pinnacle has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Arizona College Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Pinnacle keep running through batters, or will Arizona College Prep buck the trend?
Pinnacle took their win against Arizona College Prep in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. Does Pinnacle have another victory up their sleeve, or will Arizona College Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
