If the St. Edward's Pirates were riding high off their 71-39 takedown of the Synergy Magnet K12 Saints last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. St. Edward's took a serious blow against John Carroll Catholic on Friday, falling 73-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat St. Edward's has suffered yet this season.
St. Edward's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nate Sparkman, who scored 16 points. Sparkman hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Cody Simmonds, who scored 11 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead John Carroll Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brandon James, who scored 17 points. Pat Silas was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
St. Edward's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7. As for John Carroll Catholic, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Edward's will take on Pineapple Cove Classical Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pineapple Cove Classical Academy has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. John Carroll Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Okeechobee at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Okeechobee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Thursday.
