The Scales Mound Hornets came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Durand 71-57. Given Scales Mound's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while Durand is ranked 420th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Thomas Hereau, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Kaden Duerr was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nathan Folk, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. Folk has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Rager, who scored 12 points along with eight blocks and seven rebounds.
Scales Mound has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Durand, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-7.
Scales Mound will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Warren at 6:00 p.m. Durand will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Pecatonica at 6:45 p.m. on January 29th. Pecatonica knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Durand likes a good challenge.
