After flying high against the Coronado Leopards last Tuesday, the Native American Community Academy Eagles came back down to earth. Native American Community Academy was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 33-32 to Mora. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Native American Community Academy of the 33-28 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Native American Community Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Makeda Casiquito. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points. Natasha Lucero was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Native American Community Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Mora, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Native American Community Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pecos at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. Pecos is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Mora, they will play host again and welcome Penasco, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
