Plainfield Central dropped down to 16-9 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 13-2 to the Joliet West Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.
Kaylynn Howe was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Evalyn Prochaska made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two RBI.
As for Joliet West, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-15 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.
On Joliet West's side, Gabriela Juarez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Juarez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Laci Cole was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Caitlin Jadron was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Plainfield Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-5 victory against Bolingbrook on the 7th. As for Joliet West, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-1 defeat against Minooka on the 7th.
