Sumter fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lugoff-Elgin on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Demons by a score of 4-3. The Gamecocks' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lillie Ivey put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over 7.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Ivey wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was McKenzi Pearson, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Pearson has brought in this season.

Sumter's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-6.

While Sumter had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
