Odem and Taft are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Owls will be playing at home against the Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Odem is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Mathis just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 11-10.

Aria Bray was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Alyssa Spurlock was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Harper Dredla also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Taft entered their tilt with West Oso on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bears. Considering the Greyhounds have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Odem, Taft also got a great game from a two-way player: Josette Aparicio. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Aparicio was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Taft got a massive performance out of Jewelysa Garcia, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Juliana Alaniz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Taft always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Taft's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Odem, their loss dropped their record down to 12-14.
