Hickory (Hermitage, Pa.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 24 in Pennsylvania, but was stunned by
Richland (Johnstown, Pa.), 38-12. Richland was ranked at No. 35 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Pennsylvania coming into the week.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Matt Shaffer in the first quarter, the Rams led 31-0 at the half.
Shaffer and
Tanner Solarczyk ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Hornets. Shaffer scored two touchdowns on the ground and Solarczyk added two as well.
Richland's standout player in the win was Solarczyk. The junior running back caught one touchdown. He has now scored 28 touchdowns on the season.
Matt Voytik played well for Hickory. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
HHS came in allowing just 11.3 points per game this season. The Hermitage school struggled against RHS's offense, which entered the game scoring 36.1 points per game. The Johnstown school came into the game allowing 9.2 points per game. The 12 points that the Hornets ended with were well below their average of 40.8 coming into the game.
The loss comes after Hickory defeated Wilmington Area 39-7 last week.
