The Portville Panthers suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Monday. They fell just short of Frewsburg by a score of 46-43. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Portville in their matchups with Frewsburg: they've now lost seven in a row.
Frewsburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gavin Smith, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Frewsburg's points. Blake Weaver was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Portville's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Frewsburg, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portville will take on Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Randolph will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Frewsburg on the road again on Thursday and play against Panama at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. One thing working in Panama's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
