After flying high against the York Cougars last Friday, the Northwestern Trojans came back down to earth. Northwestern fell just short of South Pointe by a score of 43-41. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Northwestern of the 60-47 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Northwestern lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaylan Moore, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Theron Young, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Among those leading the charge was Caymen Finch, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Jaden Hayden-Barber was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Northwestern has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for South Pointe, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-16.
Northwestern will take on Catawba Ridge at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Catawba Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Northwestern in South Carolina (Catawba Ridge is ranked sixth, while Northwestern is ranked 79th). As for South Pointe, they will head out on the road to take on York at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. South Pointe is facing York at the right time seeing as York is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
