The McCutcheon Mavericks were the 64-55 winner over the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. McCutcheon lost to Lafayette Jefferson on the road by a decisive 70-54 margin on Thursday. While losing is never fun, McCutcheon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Lafayette Jefferson is ranked 87th).
Gavin Pritzel and Owen Souligne certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Pritzel scored 18 points, while Souligne scored 15 points. Brody Raeke was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, McCutcheon were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lafayette Jefferson only racked up two assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lafayette Jefferson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ah'keem Wilson, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devion Penny, who scored 18 points.
McCutcheon has not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Lafayette Jefferson, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
McCutcheon will head out on the road to square off against Crawfordsville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crawfordsville is facing McCutcheon at the right time seeing as McCutcheon is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they will head out on the road to square off against West Lafayette at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. West Lafayette is coming into the match with four straight wins at home, so Lafayette Jefferson is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
