The Rio Americano Raiders will challenge the Woodcreek Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rio Americano has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with seven straight losses, while Woodcreek will come in with six straight victories.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Rio Americano's offense. They lost 17-0 to Ponderosa on Wednesday.
Rio Americano saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was T Callas, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Woodcreek ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past Inderkum 3-2.
Maryn Macneil made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over eight innings pitched. Macneil was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Fonti, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Aubrey Reddell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Woodcreek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.
Woodcreek's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Americano, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rio Americano hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Woodcreek struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rio Americano might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Woodcreek in their previous meeting on April 7th. Will the Raiders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
