The Christchurch School Seahorses will challenge The Covenant Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Christchurch School has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight defeats, while The Covenant will come in with three straight wins.
On Monday, Christchurch School came up short against Isle of Wight Academy and fell 6-2.
Christchurch School saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mac Bargatze, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Anthony Dentener also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, The Covenant made easy work of Regents on Thursday and carried off an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Phillip Venton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hudson Reese and Latham Clark did most of the damage at the plate: Reese got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Clark got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Reese has become a key player for The Covenant: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Kessick, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Covenant pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Christchurch School, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Christchurch School has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like The Covenant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Christchurch School couldn't quite get it done against The Covenant in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 6-2. Will the Seahorses have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
