The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers came tearing into Wednesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Brunswick Academy 43-40. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Isle of Wight Academy also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.
Despite the loss, Brunswick Academy saw an underclassman step up: Emily King scored 24 points. That was a full 60% of Brunswick Academy's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Isle of Wight Academy's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for Brunswick Academy, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5.
Isle of Wight Academy will head out on the road to square off against Broadwater Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Brunswick Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fuqua at 5:30 p.m. on February 8th. Fuqua will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Brunswick Academy is ranked 139th).
