Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Westfield Blue Devils, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 42-24 to Phillipsburg. While losing is never fun, Westfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Phillipsburg is ranked 16th).
Despite the defeat, Westfield had strong showings from Enzo Ferrero, who picked up 184 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Max Cho, who threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns while completing 82.1% of his passes.
John Wargo was his usual excellent self, rushing for 185 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. Matthew Scerbo jr. also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Westfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Phillipsburg, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Westfield will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Plainfield at 11:00 a.m. on November 23rd. As for Phillipsburg, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Union City at 6:30 p.m. Union City is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
