Plum and Hempfield Area are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Plum comes in on ten and Hempfield Area on three.
If Plum beats Hempfield Area with three runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Mustangs didn't even let Greater Latrobe on the board on Tuesday, marking the Mustangs' second-straight 3-0 shutout.
Not much got past Michael Tedrick, who gave up just a hit to keep Greater Latrobe off the board. Tedrick has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daniel Macioce, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jake Dombkowski was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Hempfield Area put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let Woodland Hills get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory.
Jacob Jasiewicz was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Polechko, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Hempfield Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Plum's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hempfield Area, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Plum's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hempfield Area, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Plum continue to outrun the ball?
