The Riverside Academy Rebels will square off against the Catholic of Pointe Coupee Hornets at TBD on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Riverside Academy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points), and they went ahead and made it eight two weeks ago. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 63-0 win over Crescent City Christian. Given Riverside Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Crescent City Christian is ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Catholic of Pointe Coupee had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Cedar Creek 42-0 on the road. Winning may never get old, but Catholic of Pointe Coupee sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cooper Laviolette, who rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 53 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Elliott, who threw for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
Riverside Academy pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.44 points. As for Catholic of Pointe Coupee, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Riverside Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Catholic of Pointe Coupee in their previous matchup back in October of 2020, but they still walked away with a 61-57 victory.
