The Jensen Beach Falcons lost against the Port St. Lucie Jaguars back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The matchup between both teams wasn't particularly close, with Jensen Beach falling 60-46. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Port St. Lucie is ranked 145th).
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cordell Wilkins, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Alexander, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Leading Port St. Lucie to victory were Makhari Chambliss and Ryan Rodriguez. Chambliss scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while Rodriguez scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Rodriguez's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Javien Sapienza was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Jensen Beach bumped their record down to 2-5 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Port St. Lucie, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Jensen Beach will be home for the holidays to greet Sebastian River at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sebastian River is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. As for Port St. Lucie, they will head out on the road to face off against Merritt Island at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Merritt Island focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday.
