Softball Recap: Payson Wins Going Away Against Gilbert Christian

Payson came out on top against Gilbert Christian on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Longhorns blew past the Knights 7-1. Considering the Longhorns have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kinikki Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Logann Prock, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Breezey Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Payson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert Christian only posted a batting average of .087.

Payson's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-11. As for Gilbert Christian, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-19.

Payson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Gilbert Christian, they are taking a road trip to face off against ALA - Ironwood at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.76 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
