Lilly Andrews made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Anna Kiley Leal was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Minely Crozier, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mendenhall challenged Morton on Thursday. The Tigers came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 8-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
The team relied heavily on Tyleigh Williams, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Corrine Allen was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Yazoo County pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mendenhall, their record now sits at 14-7-1.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Yazoo County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .566. However, it's not like Mendenhall struggles in that department as they've averaged .503. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Yazoo County suffered a grim 16-7 defeat to Mendenhall when the teams last played back in February. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
