The Augusta Southeastern Suns's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 48-40 to Monmouth-Roseville. While losing is never fun, Augusta Southeastern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 498th, while Monmouth-Roseville is ranked 165th).
Monmouth-Roseville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Darrion Smith out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Nico Avendano was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds.
Augusta Southeastern has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Monmouth-Roseville, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Augusta Southeastern will take on Astoria/VIT at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Astoria/VIT will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Monmouth-Roseville's road trip will continue as they head out to face Abingdon at 7:30 p.m. on December 18th.
