After a string of three wins, the Heritage Academy Gateway Heroes's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were beaten by El Dorado 83-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Heritage Academy Gateway lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brock Akin, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Akin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Landon Johnston was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
El Dorado was led to victory by Kamari Brown and Mikai Phipps. Brown dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds, while Phipps scored 24 points along with eight assists and seven steals. It was the first time this season that Phipps posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Michael Carbajal, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Heritage Academy Gateway's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5. As for El Dorado, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Heritage Academy Gateway will head out on the road to challenge Empower College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Empower College Prep's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. El Dorado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
