The Campo Verde Coyotes are taking a road trip to take on the Desert Mountain Wolves at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Campo Verde came out on top against Chaparral on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Coyotes' pitcher stepped up to hand the Firebirds a 10-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Coyotes.
Not much got past Addyson Armstrong, who gave up just three hits to keep Chaparral off the board.
At the plate, Tess Lopez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Reaghann Ritz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Desert Mountain entered their tilt with Arizona College Prep on Thursday with 18 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 19. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Knights, sneaking past 4-2.
Lilly 'Goose' Goodwin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, McKinsey Beyer and Cyan De Luigi did most of the damage at the plate: Beyer went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while De Luigi went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI De Luigi has posted since back in March. Avery Gehrke also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Desert Mountain pushed their record up to 22-1-1 with the win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Campo Verde, their record now sits at 10-15.
Campo Verde came up short against Desert Mountain when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 4-1. Can the Coyotes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
