4A Region 7 recap October 8, 2013
Ashdown added to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 7 this week by beating Bauxite, 59-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Arkansas Baptist lost to Arkadelphia 56-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cory McGonigal was a bright spot for the Eagles, as he threw for 170 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.
Nashville's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Lucas Liggin threw for 204 and 3 touchdowns and LaMichael Pettway had 118 yards receiving. On the ground Kyler Lawrence chipped in 85 yards. Trey Hughes helped Nashville's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 33 yards.
The Scrappers' dynamic duo of Liggin and Pettway proved tough for Central Arkansas Christian to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hughes helped Nashville's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 33 yards.
Marcus Devine made the biggest impact on defense this week as Robinson lost to Malvern. He racked up 1 sack.
He went 13-25 with 0 interceptions.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Arkansas Baptist's Riley Perkins and Robert Paul Upshaw have proven to be a lethal combination. Perkins has thrown for 1,340 yards this season, while Upshaw has 42 catches for 467 yards. Nashville's Lawrence leads the league in rushing yards with 393.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Brad Helm's team's Upshaw goes up against Billy Dawson's team's Corey Cooper.
Next week's game between the Eagles and the Scrappers will feature a good passing match up as Perkins will test his arm against Cooper's defensive ability.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Arkansas Baptist and Nashville face off next week.
A big matchup in 4A Region 7 this week will be when Ashdown takes on the Leopards. Matt Richardson's team is currently in first, while Malvern is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Eagles and the Scrappers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Arkansas Baptist comes in having scored 139 this season, while Nashville has scored 136. The Eagles scored 6 points last week as they lost to the Badgers.
The Scrappers made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,342 from 4,090. The improvement was largely due to a 43-12 victory over the Mustangs last week.
