The South Gallia Rebels pushed their score all the way to 57 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Portsmouth West by a score of 59-57. It was the first time this season that South Gallia let down their fans at home.
South Gallia lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Morgan Lyons, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Lyons' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tori Triplett, who scored 22 points.
South Gallia's defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2. As for Portsmouth West, their victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.
South Gallia will take on Crooksville in a holiday battle at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at. Crooksville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 702nd, while South Gallia is ranked 137th). Portsmouth West will be home for the holidays to greet Eastern at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
