The Johnson County Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Hancock Central Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hancock Central took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Johnson County, who comes in off a win.
Johnson County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Twiggs County 47-8 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-0.
Johnson County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Turberville, who threw for 25 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Javaris Duckworth was in the mix too, providing Johnson County with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 38 points the game before, Hancock Central were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell 14-6 to Wilkinson County.
Johnson County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Hancock Central, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Everything came up roses for Johnson County against Hancock Central when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 50-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Johnson County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
