Ridgemont and Cory-Rawson are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2019, but not for long. The Golden Gophers will face off against the Fighting Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ridgemont will be strutting in after a victory while Cory-Rawson will be coming in after a defeat.
Ridgemont not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 23rd (when they won 3-0). They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Perry. The win continues a trend for the Golden Gophers in their matchups with the Commodores: they've now won four in a row.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Ridgemont took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-11, 25-14.
Meanwhile, Cory-Rawson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Upper Scioto Valley. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Cory-Rawson actually scored more points across those five sets (94-91), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 16-25, 10-25, 25-12, 15-11.
Despite the defeat, Cory-Rawson saw an underclassman step up: freshman Rory Walters had 12 digs. Those 12 digs set a new season-high mark for Walters.
Cory-Rawson's loss dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Ridgemont, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Ridgemont might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Cory-Rawson in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Golden Gophers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
