The Corinth Warriors were the 51-46 winner over the Ripley Tigers when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Corinth fell 66-58 to Ripley on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Corinth came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Ripley is ranked 286th).
When it comes to explaining why Corinth lost, one person who can't be blamed is Xae Mayes. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 5 assists. The game was Mayes' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braedyn Burress, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Corinth and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for Ripley, their win bumped their record up to 2-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Corinth won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Walnut at 4:30 p.m. on December 28th. As for Ripley, they will head out on the road to face off against Amory at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
