The Berthoud Spartans pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 81-59 walloping at the hands of Resurrection Christian. Berthoud has struggled against Resurrection Christian recently, as their contest on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Berthoud's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Darin Davidson, who scored 19 points, and Reece Stratmeyer who scored 14 points. It was the first time this season that Davidson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Isaac Erickson, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Resurrection Christian was led to victory by Ty Yoder and Marcus Phillips. Yoder scored 14 points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Phillips dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Phillips hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Cade Crutcher was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Berthoud's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Resurrection Christian, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berthoud will take on Sterling at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Sterling is ranked 93rd, while Berthoud is ranked 116th). As for Resurrection Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Colorado Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Resurrection Christian is coming into the matchup with three straight wins at home, so Colorado Academy is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
