The Viera Hawks will head out on the road to challenge the Oviedo Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Viera has five straight victories, Oviedo has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Viera's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Wednesday, when they got past Satellite's usually-dominant pitching crew. Viera blew past Satellite 15-3. Considering the Hawks have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Madison Rider made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Rider was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Potts, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Farinhas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Viera was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .576 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Oviedo scored first but ultimately less than Timber Creek in their contest on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 7-6.
Avery Madden was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Alivia Doubleday also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Viera pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Oviedo, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.
Oviedo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Viera has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .502. It's a different story for Oviedo, though, as they've only averaged .295. Will they be able to contain Viera's hitters?
Viera couldn't quite finish off Oviedo when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can Viera avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
