Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Comes Up Short

After flying high against Illinois Lutheran last Tuesday, Heritage Christian came back down to earth. The Heritage Christian Defenders took a blow against the La Lumiere Lakers on Thursday, falling 74-28. While losing is never fun, the Defenders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while the Lakers are ranked 152nd).

Heritage Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sydney Lenting, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and five steals. Lenting is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Claire Bruinsma, who put up six points and eight rebounds.

Heritage Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for La Lumiere, they pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage Christian will venture away from home to challenge Victory Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Heritage Christian is facing Victory Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Victory Christian Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for La Lumiere, they will head out on the road to square off against Latin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
