SAUGUS, Calif. -
Saugus (Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 48-6 win over Golden Valley (Santa Clarita, Calif.).
The Centurions put up 21 points in the opening frame. Saugus scored on a
Chris Hamilton touchdown pass to
Ried Rupe, a
Marc Langford touchdown run and a defensive touchdown.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Hamilton to Rupe in the first quarter, SHS led 41-0 at the half.
The Centurions expanded their lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. Saugus scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by Rupe.
The Grizzlies' Terence Tamura played well. The junior running back ran for one touchdown.
SHS's standout player in the win was Rupe. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown.
Golden Valley's lone touchdown came on a 54-yard run by Tamura in the third quarter.
The Centurions came in allowing an average of 23.9 points per game this season. Saugus held firm on the defensive front, and kept GV below the 10.4 points it had been averaging per game.
A 36-27 Saugus victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Centurions, which was coming off a 35-0 defeat at the hands of Hart in its previous game.
Saugus (3-6) goes up against West Ranch in a Foothill game matchup next week, while Golden Valley (0-9) locks horns with Valencia also in a Foothill game.
