After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Payton College Prep brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Maine West Warriors on Saturday. With that victory, the Grizzlies brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Anthony Arena tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Derek Patton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Nathan Volkens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
