Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Timnath Cubs proved on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat St. Mary's Academy 52-14 on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-8.
Timnath found their leader in underclassman Gretchen Deines, who scored 15 points along with 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Deines has scored at least 25% of Timnath's points. Tiana Guzman was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals.
Despite the defeat, St. Mary's Academy had strong showings from Emily Rodriguez, who scored 0 points along with 12 rebounds and 4 steals, and Madison High, who scored 0 points. Rodriguez is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
The win got Timnath back to even at 2-2. As for St. Mary's Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
Timnath and Weld Central will face off at 12:00 p.m. on December 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
