In what's become a running theme this season, the Avon Panthers gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Calvary Chapel Academy 69-34 at home. Winning may never get old, but Avon sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Avon was led to victory by Josiah Guerrier and Thomas Edwards. Guerrier dropped a double-double on 16 points and 22 rebounds, while Edwards shot 8-for-14 from downtown and almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Edwards pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Thomas Irby, who scored seven points along with 17 rebounds and two steals.
Avon's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.4 points per game. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Avon will stay at home for another game and welcome Westport at 6:30 p.m. on February 9th. Avon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Westport likes a good challenge. As for Calvary Chapel Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Hull at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
