The Sandhills Valley Mavericks fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Medicine Valley Raiders on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 52-49. Sandhills Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Medicine Valley apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Kyle Kramer and Cooper Layher certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Kramer almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, 14 rebounds, and ten blocks, while Layher scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Those ten blocks set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Braden Powell, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Sandhills Valley and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Medicine Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandhills Valley will take on Cody-Kilgore at TBD on Friday. As for Medicine Valley, they will be playing at home against Mullen on Friday.
