Highlands hasn't had much luck against Jefferson recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Owls will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. Highlands has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Highlands' offense. They lost 11-0 to Burbank on Tuesday. The Owls have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Highlands got a good showing from Robert Mccormick, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Highlands saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zaydin Rivera, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Rivera is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Jefferson never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Lanier as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Justin Ruiz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Jefferson: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 8-10 otherwise. Ruiz was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Aiden Urdiales was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Julian Calvario was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Highlands' defeat dropped their record down to 3-13-1. As for Jefferson, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
