The Nixon Mustangs were the 78-65 winner over the Steele Knights when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Nixon was dealt a 83-45 defeat at the hands of Steele on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Nixon has scored all season.
Nixon lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mason Vela, who scored 11 points. The contest was Vela's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexi Alonzo, who scored nine points.
Nixon has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Steele, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nixon is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial at 6:15 p.m. on December 19th. One thing working in Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. As for Steele, they will head out on the road to face off against Alexander at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexander will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Steele is ranked 40th).
